No, in theory it will improve it since it will decrease boundary layer friction (stiction) same as it does in high performance induction systems, etc.. Can't imagine there being any market big enough to be worth the effort.

Also if I were to make a mold off of them and have them recast in aluminum, is there a market for these reproductions? I apologize in advance if these questions are naive (or dumb) :^)
Hello Artlab,:welcome: do you have pics you can post of them.First you will have to have 3 posts before you can post pics. Most people would prefer them original so to answer your question I wouldn't polish them since your selling them. Are they in good shape and do you have the throats for them.As far as reproductions that's a good question they wouldn't get nowhere near what originals sell for though.

I don't understand it.Why are they worth so much ??? I can see how they would be useful if your listening room is small as you would be able to shrink enclosures.

Re: OK, a pair of Altec 31A HORNS, just sold on

Those are model 32, not the larger 31 PA horn the OP asked about.

Regardless, I imagine there's more 32A horns than 700 series WE drivers nowadays and its smaller throat would be a poor match up to Altec 1" exit drivers, so still see no market to clone these unless someone comes up with a milled reduction sleeve. Then there's the matter of having a custom 15" made with enough BW to ~match the original.

If the OP is actually referring to the cast 32B, then yeah, I'd like to see these made available at a reasonable price.

Thanks GM, I do a lot of aluminum polishing in my work and I think they would look nice with a mirror polish. The last thing I would want to do is degrade the sound quality but if it could help them that's a bonus!
